The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival that falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It is a time to celebrate the heroic poet Qu Yuan and his fearless spirit.

Legend has it that Qu Yuan was a loyal minister during the Warring States period in China. He urged his king to unite all the states, but his advice was ignored. When his state was conquered by a neighboring state, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the river out of despair and protest.

The local people who admired Qu Yuan's patriotism and integrity raced to the river, beating drums and throwing rice dumplings to keep the fish and evil spirits away from his body. As time went by, these practices developed into the Dragon Boat Festival, marked by dragon boat races, eating zongzi (a glutinous rice snack wrapped in bamboo leaves), and wearing sachets filled with herbs to ward off evil.

Qu Yuan's tragic story not only inspired a national spirit of patriotism and love for one's country, but also a celebration of life, unity, and courage. Therefore, the Dragon Boat Festival is not only a remembrance of Qu Yuan's legacy, but also a way to embrace tradition and take part in a festive atmosphere of happiness and community.
